BY SCOTT LAUBERJust heard from a source at the GM meetings in Dana Point, Calif.: Ruben Amaro Jr. has announced that Steve Smith has been fired as the Phillies' third-base coach. No word yet on a replacement, although one name to watch may be Juan Samuel, whose two-year contract with the Orioles expired after the season.

BC: Good question. Definitely the Phillies' decision, not Smith's. I'll make that clearer in the post.
