CLEARWATER, Fla. -- Before we get to today's video, a programming note: I will be hosting delawareonline.com's first live Phillies chat at 12:30 p.m. Thursday. We'll go right up to the first pitch of the 1:05 p.m. game against the Blue Jays here at Bright House Field. So, gather your Phillies questions, come on over, and we'll talk. You know, no big whoop.
Meanwhile, since the Grapefruit League play begin tomorrow, I thought we'd take a look at four things to watch during the Phillies' 34 games.
1. The fifth-starter competition.
2. The final spot(s) in the bullpen.
3. The backup-catcher competition.
4. The candidates to be a right-handed bench player (Marcus Giles, Miguel Cairo, etc.).

Can I ask you why you only mention giles, cairo and donald. Aren't there other guys who have a shot at the job or do you just cross them off the list because aren't household names
Anonymous: Giles, Cairo and Donald were on my mind because they're infielders, and with the injuries to Pedro Feliz and Chase Utley, infielders have a better chance at making the team than an outfielder (John Mayberry Jr., for example). Having said that, if the Phillies decide to trade either Matt Stairs or Geoff Jenkins, it could open the door for someone like Mayberry.
Thanks, I was thinking Mayberry, Ozuna or Furmaniak because the later two have played all infield positions and the outfield as well. It should be fun. Have enjoyed your work, thanks
