Being back at spring training, it's hard not to think of Lidle, who routinely kept us writers occupied on slow mornings at the Carpenter Complex by sharing stories of his poker games at Tampa Downs. And, of course, it was at this time last year that Lidle also told us about his new hobby, piloting an airplane, and showed off pictures of his new single-engine Cirrus SR20.

Feb. 15 -- YANKEES TO HONOR LIDLE
Being back at spring training, it's hard not to think of Lidle, who routinely kept us writers occupied on slow mornings at the Carpenter Complex by sharing stories of his poker games at Tampa Downs. And, of course, it was at this time last year that Lidle also told us about his new hobby, piloting an airplane, and showed off pictures of his new single-engine Cirrus SR20.

scott,
It seems like Jayson Werth would have to have an amazing camp - and Coste have a terrible one - for Werth to usurp Coste for the last spot on the roster. Would you agree?
And, since it's been more than a year since Werth played, I would think he's the long shot more than Coste is, no?
Hey, Geoff: Jayson Werth is on the team. Unless he's not healthy (a distinct possibility), he's in. Coste is in a three-way battle for the last two bench spots with IF Greg Dobbs and OF Karim Garcia. Dobbs and Garcia are both left-handed hitters, which gives them an edge on Coste. But Charlie Manuel loves Coste, so that's working in his favor.
If I had to bet, Coste will be on the team, and the last spot will come down to either Dobbs or Garcia.
Geoff,
I know those four hour days at the NovaCare Complex can wear a man down but since your not a man take an extra ten minutes each day and read your baseball writer's prose. He's actually on top of things unlike Gannett Eagles writers.
