Nov. 3 -- PHILLIES FREE AGENTS

Quick update: Through Friday morning, seven Phillies have filed for free agency -- LHP Randy Wolf, C Mike Lieberthal, LHP Aaron Fultz, RHP Rick White, LHP Arthur Rhodes, IF Jose Hernandez and OF David Dellucci. That leaves only 1B Randall Simon to still file.

Also, stay tuned later today for the announcement of the NL Gold Glove winners.

Simon's waiting to see if the Phillies will hold a "beat the mascot day" before he decides to file.

Hey Herby: Amazing, isn't it, how tapping one unsuspecting Italian sausage on the noggin gets a guy branded for life?

Just takes a looooong memory. Do something stupid like that and it should be remembered. I hope you're not implying it shouldn't.

Certainly, I'm not condoning the act of hitting anybody over the head with a bat, especially a defenseless woman dressed as a sausage. However, I think the Simon incident was overblown. If you watch the replay, he didn't swing the bat with malice. He lightly tapped the mascot on the head. It was the top-heavy costume that caused the woman to fall, and those costumes are top-heavy. Don't believe me? Just ask the writer from Phillies.com, but that's a story for another day.

No Phillies won the Gold Glove, so I won't bother posting anything about it. Jimmy Rollins had a shot at shortstop, but Omar Vizquel won his 11th straight Gold Glove. Other notable winners included 1B Albert Pujols, 3B Scott Rolen, and, in an upset, C Brad Ausmus over Cardinals C Yadier Molina.

Maybe next year he'll just slightly push someone down a flight of stairs.
