BY SCOTT LAUBER
Here's your Pat Burrell update:
Burrell has been diagnosed with a lower back strain. Athletic trainer Scott Sheridan said Burrell worked out this morning and said it felt "significantly better." Burrell will take batting practice in a few minutes, and until then, the Phillies won't decide if he's in the lineup. If Burrell can't play, Charlie Manuel said Matt Stairs will start in right field and Jayson Werth will move to left.
"The only thing he's really concerned with is making sure he's 100 percent for swinging," said Sheridan, who isn't worried about Burrell being able to run or play defense.
Manuel allowed that Burrell is more pivotal to the Phillies' lineup tomorrow, with lefty CC Sabathia on the mound than today with right-hander Yovani Gallardo. "Tomorrow is probably more important, but at the same time, he hit a home run against [Gallardo] in the game he played against him last year."
