April 12 -- UPDATE: VICTORINO ON THE DL

Shane Victorino left tonight's game after the sixth inning with what the Phillies are calling a "right calf strain." He appeared to injure himself scoring from third base on a wild pitch in the fifth.

Victorino, you'll remember, landed on the disabled list last July 31 with a right calf strain. He missed nearly a month and got only 47 at-bats after being activated Aug. 22.

Check tomorrow's paper for more.

(Update, 11:10 p.m.): Victorino was placed on the disabled list after the game. The Phillies have recalled Chris Snelling from Class AAA Lehigh Valley. Jimmy Rollins (sprained left ankle) isn't expected to play tomorrow. Without Rollins or Victorino, expect Jayson Werth to bat leadoff and play center field. So Taguchi is also an option for that duty.

Hey Scott,

Is there any chance Greg Golson gets called up if Victorino's out for an extended period of time? Losing Rollins and Victorino really hurts our overall team speed and by adding Golson gives us some more quickness on the basepaths.

Jeff: I had the exact same thought last night after Victorino got hurt. From what I've been told, it's a little too early to think about calling up Golson. While he's off to a strong start at Class AA Reading, they need to see more from him before they throw him into a major-league situation. They'd rather have Golson playing every day in the minors and growing as a hitter than coming off the bench as a pinch-runner. So Taguchi can do that.

I was going to do a post on this later today or tomorrow, though. So, I'd like to hear other folks weigh in on it.
