Anyone who has been to Citizens Bank Park knows that nearly every seat offers a great view. Lesser known is the appeal of standing-room-only tickets.
They're usually the cheapest route into the park, and that's true even during the playoffs, but some standing-room tickets for Game 1 sold online for more than $100. Apparently, a fair portion of the 45,929 in attendance found it worth the money.
They ringed the stadium, standing three and four deep at the stainless steel bar that lines the edge of the concourse. They packed into the center-field patio, standing on the tips of their toes, abusing their calf muscles just to get a half-second peek at the action more than 415 feet away.
Everyone I've spoken with during the past few days, especially those with standing-room tickets, has said their goal was simply to get into the park. If they tired of standing for so long, balancing a beer and a hot dog, they needed only to look around when the Phillies got a big hit or made a great defensive play -- every seat becomes standing-room only.
