May 18 -- IBANEZ HONORED, BAKO SIGNED

BY SCOTT LAUBER

So, I'm told we're having audio difficulties with the video. Attempting to get that cleared up. Meanwhile, there are two newsy items today:

1.
Raul Ibanez has been named National League Player of the Week, although it would've been surprising only if he wasn't. Ibanez batted .481 (13-for-27) with four homers and 12 RBIs in the last seven games, but he probably secured the weekly award Saturday when he went 5-for-8 with three homers and seven RBIs in a doubleheader in DC. Ibanez became the first Phillies player since Harry Anderson in 1958 to hit two homers in the first game of a doubleheader and add another in the second game.

2. The Phillies have signed 36-year-old veteran catcher
Paul Bako to a minor-league contract. Assistant GM Scott Proefrock said the idea is to "add to the catching depth." Bako will report to extended spring training in Clearwater, Fla., before receiving a specific minor-league assignment. He's a .231 career hitter with 21 homers and 186 RBIs in 745 major-league games with 10 teams and was released March 30 by the Cubs.
