April 23 -- RUIZ TO REHAB AT LEHIGH VALLEY

BY SCOTT LAUBER

Carlos Ruiz will begin a rehab assignment with triple-A Lehigh Valley on Saturday when the IronPigs host Pawtucket at Coca-Cola Park. Charlie Manuel said yesterday that Ruiz likely will play four games, alternating games between catching and designated hitting. Ruiz has been out since April 10 with a strained right oblique.

Here's my colleague Kevin Tresolini's initial recap of Cole Hamels' bruised left shoulder.

hey scott, unrelated question. Did the Phils ever actually meet with Obama when they were scheduled to do so? I don't remember hearing about it at all.

They didn't. It was supposed to be the day after Harry died. They will sometime this year. I think I heard June or July time frame.

Ruiz should just stay in Triple A. Let Marson do most of the work with Coste getting a spot start here and there.

Also, Hamels is just a bruise now but it is just the start of his injury bug!!!! They need to make Happ a starter soon.

Andrew: Anonymous is right. The White House visit with President Obama is being rescheduled. There's no date yet.

Anonymous: The Phillies don't think Marson is ready to be the everyday catcher, and based on what I've seen of him defensively, it's hard to disagree. He'll go back to Triple-A when Ruiz is activated next week.

If you're right about Hamels, the Phillies are in BIG trouble.

Its hard to improve something when you are not getting much of an opportunity.

I would rather have an ok defensive catcher with a bat {Lou] then a great defensive catcher who really can't hit [Ruiz].
