June 11 -- KENDRICK TO START

Word from The Bank is right-hander Kyle Kendrick will make Freddy Garcia's start Wednesday against the White Sox. So, for the second time in a month, the Phils have called up a pitcher from double-A (Mike Zagurski was the other). But after covering double-A for five years, trust me when I say some of the best hitters in the minors are at that level, not triple-A. Kendrick is 4-7 with a 3.21 ERA in 12 starts for Reading, but most impressive are his (only) 18 walks in 81-1/3 innings. The Phillies will have to make a roster move before Wednesday. My guess: Clay Condrey back to the minors.

Also, don't forget to weigh in on the question from one of the posts below: where does Garcia rank among the biggest Phillies flops of all-time?

Biggest Phillies FA/trade flops of my lifetime (I'm 36)

Bruce Chen (for Andy Ashby, who we got for Adam Eaton, Carlton Loewer and a reliever)

Danny Tartabull - our "big" FA signing (fouled a ball off his foot - and broke it - in the 1st or 2nd game of the season)

Mike Jackson (got hurt warming up in game 1 of the season, I believe)

Gregg Jefferies (they put him on the cover of a video game for cryin' out loud!)

Omar Daal/Travis Lee (for Schilling)

Bud Smith (for Rolen)

Turk Wendell (from the Mets)

I could go on and on...but it hurts too much.

Keep up the good work Scott - Dave.

Doesn't Condrey need to clear waivers first before being assigned to Ottawa ? Not that this should be an issue as the Phils should not be concerned about losing him. Also Kendrick is not on the 40 man roster, so someone needs to go unless Matthieson can be moved to 60 day DL.

Anon: Condrey is out of options, so yes, he would need to clear waivers. Actually, he'd need to be designated for assignment, which would automatically remove him from the 40-man roster.
