... so, too, it seems is Tom Gordon's rehab. Gordon threw much better today in the rookie-level Gulf Coast League -- 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R/ER, 0 BB, 3 K -- and will report to the Bank to throw a bullpen session Sunday. If all goes well, he may be headed out to LA with the Phillies next week.
One interesting note: Pitching coach Rich Dubee told me Gordon's fastball was clocked at 90-91 mph today. I asked Charlie Manuel how hard he thinks Gordon needs to throw his fastball to be optimally effective with his curve, and he said 91-93. That would seem to indicate Gordon isn't quite there yet. Dubee didn't seem to think the velocity is a problem. We'll see.

Albert Pujols and Tony La Russa kissed and made up and swear there's no rift between them, although La Russa now admits he probably should've pinch-hit Pujols for Aaron Rowand with two outs, the bases loaded and the NL trailing 5-4 in the ninth inning of the All-Star Game.

Funny sign hanging from the facade in right-center field tonight. It reads, "7 Stadiums, 52 Managers, 2,150 Players, 10,000 Losses" ... well, not quite. Looks like the Phillies may win tonight (it's 7-0 in the third inning, which should be a big enough cushion even for their bullpen).
