July 6 -- ROCKY MOUNTAIN HIGH (UPDATED)

DENVER -- Brett Myers just played catch in the outfield, and now, he's throwing a frisbee with J.D. Durbin and Ryan Madson. Looks like his shoulder is feeling better. But, as GM Pat Gillick told me yesterday, Tom Gordon is on schedule to return before Myers. Gordon threw in his first minor-league rehab game yesterday, and it went well.

In the interest of full disclosure, Denver is one of my favorite cities. Coors Field is beautiful. The mountains are breathtaking. The streets are clean. The food is great,
especially here. And my hotel is located smack in the middle of plenty of the 16th Street Mall, a center of activity downtown. So, when I looked at the schedule last winter and saw the Phils had a day off here, I was understandably excited.

Now, though, it's back to work. Clubhouse is about to open. More later.

*
Injury updates: Carlos Ruiz (strained muscle above his right knee) may play tomorrow. ... Myers (strained right shoulder) will throw a bullpen tomorrow. ... Gordon (strained right rotator cuff) is expected to pitch again Monday for Class A Clearwater. ... Jayson Werth will have his left wrist examined Monday and could begin a rehab assignment next week at Clearwater. ... Jon Lieber underwent surgery today in Baltimore. The tendon was reattached, and he'll be wearing a walking boot for 3-4 weeks.

J.A. Happ's return to the minors was less than stellar.

Quote of the day from Charlie Manuel on the Rockies outscoring the Mets, 28-10, over the last two games at Coors: "Maybe the Mets were hitting those humidor balls, and they were hitting regular balls."

I feel the same way about Gordon that I did in April. If he has his breaking ball working, he'll be fine. If his arm isn't healthy enough that he can throw his breaking ball, he'll struggle the way he did to start the season.

I gotta admit - I really don't know much about baseball

To whoever duplicated my name and made that comment,

I mean seriously - Are you still in high school or something? Why not add something productive to the conversation instead of trying to bring down someone who you don't even know?
