Aug. 14 -- VICTORINO INJURED ... AGAIN

WASHINGTON -- Pat Gillick poked his head into Charlie Manuel's office tonight while the manager was talking with me and a few other reporters and broke the news. Shane Victorino, playing in his first minor-league rehab game tonight for double-A Reading, pulled himself from the game after tweaking his strained right calf. Victorino went 1-for-3 with an RBI single in the first inning before leaving the game.

According to the report Gillick received and passed along to us, Victorino felt "something grab" as he ran to first base after hitting a nubber in front of the plate. For whatever it's worth, Victorino told me last week (and I wrote in the 50-cent edition) that he was only feeling tightness in his calf when he had to accelerate. Once he started running, he felt fine.

Anyway, he'll be evaluated further tomorrow. Of course, I'll post updates here when they become available.
