CHICAGO -- Well, that didn't take long.
In the first inning of his first start since being acquired from Cincinnati, Kyle Lohse joined the Phillies' wounded list. At this point, all we know is that Lohse suffered a bruised right forearm after being struck by a Jacque Jones comebacker to end the first inning. Shortly after the Phillies came off the field, J.D. Durbin began warming in the bullpen, and Adam Eaton pinch-hit for Lohse in the second inning. Durbin, Lohse's former teammate and golfing buddy with Minnesota, is in the game right now.
Stay tuned for more updates on Lohse's status.
Phillies up 4-1, bottom second. Pat Burrell homered in the second to break a 1-1 tie before Jayson Werth singled home Wes Helms, and Chris Coste scored on Tadahito Iguchi's sacrifice fly. Interesting, by the way, that Coste got the start today with Lohse on the mound. Loyal readers of The Blog know that I think that's a good decision. Carlos Ruiz is in an 8-for-55 slump, and Rod Barajas hasn't hit much all year.
(Update, 3:30 Central): It was, at one time, 7-1 Phillies. But Durbin allowed three runs, and struggling Geoff Geary just gave up another in the fifth. Phillies have only one hit (by pinch-hitting Barajas, of all people) since the third inning.
