June 13 -- CUTTING OFF THEIR (BOBBLE)HEADS

BY SCOTT LAUBER

All fans who attended the Clearwater Threshers game last night at Bright House Field expected to receive a Pat Burrell bobblehead doll.

Thanks to the Tampa Bay Rays, they left disappointed.

According to a statement on the Threshers' Web site, the Class A team has had to cancel its series of Phillies World Series bobblehead giveaways because they violate an MLB agreement wherein the Rays may block the promotion of another team's brand within Tampa Bay's 60-mile television territory. Clearwater isn't the only team being affected. The Dunedin Blue Jays, Tampa Yankees, Sarasota Reds and Lakeland Tigers also can't give away bobbleheads.

Amazing, isn't it, what some major-league teams choose to worry about?
