June 15 -- ALL-STAR UPDATE

BY SCOTT LAUBER

Hate to distract from the previous post (still want your thoughts on the Phillies' last 10 games), but if you'll pardon the interruption, it seems y'all continue to stuff the ballot boxes in the NL All-Star voting. Courtesy of MLB, here's your weekly voting update:

Chase Utley is winning the second-base vote in a landslide over the Dodgers' Orlando Hudson (904,648 votes). In fact, Utley's 2,273,355 votes lead all NL players, including Cardinals first baseman Albert Pujols (2,158,036).

The closest race, by far, is at shortstop, where Jimmy Rollins holds an 87,460-vote lead over the Marlins' Hanley Ramirez. My money remains on J-Roll. With the typically small crowds at Dolphin Stadium (oops, Land Shark Stadium), it's just so hard for a Marlins player to win an All-Star vote, unless he gets tremendous national support.

Raul Ibanez (1,897,905 votes) has slightly widened his lead over the Brewers' Ryan Braun (1,667,029) among outfielders. Shane Victorino is in fifth place (1,116,524), and Jayson Werth remains in eighth (834,910). Other Phillies: Ryan Howard is second among first basemen with 1,147,227 votes, though he's well behind Pujols; Pedro Feliz, batting .318 and increasingly deserving of an All-Star nod, is still running fourth among third basemen with 792,123 votes; Carlos Ruiz (809,633) remains third among catchers.

Since I saw last week that Jimmy Rollins was leading for NL shortstops I've been voting against him, so to speak, by voting for Miguel Tejada instead. Now I guess I'll start voting for Ramirez since he has the best shot at overtaking Jimmy. I still love Jimmy and I believe he'll turn this bad season around, but he doesn't deserve to start in the all star game.

how embarrassing would it be for both Jimmy and Philly if Rollins makes it in the All Star game. What a bunch of fools. I guess I am rooting for good ole J-roll to make it in there. Just another lame act by Philly and its fans.

Gotta love Philly said...

how embarrassing. i hope J-Roll gets in. He and Philly will once again be a laughingstock. what a joke
