Mar. 5 -- ROLLINS LIKES OBAMA

So, after a visit last month to the Rangers' camp in Arizona, University of Delaware grad Jeff Pearlman wrote an interesting column for ESPN.com about how the back-and-forth Democratic primary between Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton hasn't pervaded baseball clubhouses. While so many people who previously weren't politically inclined have become engaged in the Obama-Clinton debate, Pearlman found most baseball players are more interested in ogling the models in Maxim than reading the political coverage in their local newspaper.

Apparently, Jimmy Rollins isn't most baseball players.

According to the Phillies' Web site, Rollins closely followed the election results Tuesday night from Vermont, Rhode Island and Ohio. And when he awoke today, he was eager to check the paper to see which candidate won Texas. J-Roll said he has been following the issues, namely NAFTA, and while he hasn't endorsed a particular candidate, he told the team's Web site, "I'd probably support Obama. He's a breath of fresh air, and he's not bogged down in the Washington politics. He's not trying to be politically correct, so to speak. He is what he is, and he's straightforward with the American people."

Wow. Chris Matthews -- a big Phillies fan, by the way -- couldn't have said it better.

Adam Eaton will start Thursday against the Rays. If he struggles again, the competition for the No. 5 starter job could get very interesting. Looming on Saturday: Kris Benson will pitch in an intra-squad minor-league game at the Carpenter Complex.

To be clear, before everyone starts screaming about why the Phillies don't just sign Kyle Lohse, Lohse is believed to be looking for a one-year deal worth between $4 million and $10 million. Big difference there, and no guarantee that he'll sign for $4 million.

On the occasion of Brett Favre's retirement, I figured it was worth re-posting this video of Favre and his look-a-like, Geoff Jenkins.
