Feb. 6 -- MOVING DAY

It happens every February. A few days after the groundhog pokes his head out and walks around for a while, the big moving truck pulls up to Citizens Bank Park. Unheralded workers, like Phillies clubhouse manager Phil Sheridan and equipment man Danny O'Rourke, fill the truck with bats, gloves, uniforms and baseballs. Then, the rig heads south down I-95 to Clearwater, Fla.

Call it "moving day" for the Phillies.

Well, the big day is tomorrow. Courtesy of the Phillies' PR staff, here's a list of items that will be on the truck and unpacked later this week at Bright House Networks Field, where Phillies pitchers and catchers will have their first workout next Thursday.

10 cases of gum
12 cases of sunflower seeds
18 coolers
200 helmets
350 pair of shorts
450 pair of socks
500 pair of pants
600 hats
900 bats
2,000 t-shirts
7,500 12 oz. cups
15,000 baseballs

Just got off the phone with Gregg Clifton, the agent who represents Kris Benson. The highlights: Yes, the Phillies have watched Benson throw twice in the past week, including Tuesday in Atlanta. No, they haven't offered him a contract yet. Yes, Benson would like to pitch for the Phillies, primarily because they're a playoff contender. No, Clifton doesn't think Benson absolutely has to find a job before pitchers and catchers report to Florida and Arizona.

Most important, though, Clifton said Benson would consider a minor-league contract with a spring-training invite. That is, of course, only if he doesn't receive any better offers.

Stay tuned.

I made it down to Clearwater for the first time ever last year and I had a blast. There's nothing like Florida sun and the Phillies to make a great vacation. The best part of all is the anticipation of the upcoming season. I can't believe it's almost time! Do you get to be down there for spring training, Scott?

Peyton: I'll be in Clearwater on Tuesday. Glad you enjoyed it last year. Are you going back again?

Why go to spring training when there's so much hockey left in the season?

Scott,
There are rumors flying that the A's might deal Joe Blanton before the season starts, and that the Phils MIGHT be in the mix.

Have you heard anything substantial? What would the Phils have to give up to make this trade happen?

P.S.

Keep up the great work!

So Scott, should the Phils sign either Benson or another SP...I assume that leaves both Durbins and Eaton to start the year in the bullpen?
