June 18 -- READER POLL

OK, so the Phillies dropped two of three games to the Red Sox this week. What, if anything, did you learn about the Phillies? What's your level of confidence in their ability to compete with arguably the best team in the majors.

Go ahead and discuss. I'll chime in tomorrow during the Phillies' off-day.

They are nothing more than a playoff team at best, not World Series contender...

It's tough to say because normally Utley isn't in an 0-20 funk and Kyle Kendrick isn't usually THAT bad.

On the other hand, we faced a Red Sox lineup that completely lacked David Ortiz and didn't have Manny in the lineup for a game. We didn't face Beckett, Matsuzaka, or Schilling.

I think the Angels series will be huge. Hopefully tomorrow's off-day will help cure the LOB bug that's been wafting through the clubhouse.

we learned the same thing that we've always known. when the phillies slump, they suck. when they're hot, they're almost unbeatable.

they're slumping. they'll be out of it soon though.

angels are going to be very tough. sucks we've had to face some of the best rotations this past week+

The saving grace is that the Marlins and Braves have a very similar schedule.

If Bret does not step up or we get a new #2, playoffs will be the best you can hope for this year.

Benson or Durbin as a new starter could be huge if they can win 8-10 games.

Nothing has changed. We still need to pick up a #2 pitcher before the trade deadline expires and another veteran (good though!) lefty in the bullpen.
We have the offense to win it all. We SHOULD go out and do EVERYTHING we can to get the pitching and make a run for the World Series THIS year.

The Red Sox are nothing great but they have better starters than the Phillies. I think our bullpen is better and our offense is definately better but as they always say, Good pitching beats Good Hitting!
