July 16 -- THE GAME THAT WON'T END

NEW YORK -- Sitting here in the bottom of the 14th inning, and there are surprisingly a lot of folks left in the stands. Don't these people have jobs! They just had the "14th Inning Stretch," believe it or not. It's been a while since I've seen that.

So, remember how I said Brad Lidge would close this game? He has been designated as the NL closer by manager Clint Hurdle, and while that's a nice honor, it also means he has warmed up in the ninth, 10th, 11th, 12th and 13th innings to be ready in case the NL gets a lead. They haven't. Wonder how many pitches Lidge has thrown in the bullpen?

Finally, Brandon Webb, the NL's last starting pitcher, is in the game. Think it's too late to get Cole Hamels on the All-Star team?
