July 6 -- GORDON TO DL

Wrapping up here at the Bank after a loooooong day (and night), but I wanted to pass along this fairly significant development: After the game, Tom Gordon was placed on the disabled list.

Gordon, as you know, has been pitching with a partial tear in his right shoulder. But this problem involves his elbow. Charlie Manuel said Gordon was diagnosed with inflammation in his elbow after pitching Saturday night against the Mets.

"Flash doesn't say too much, but you can tell sometimes by how he is pitching if something is wrong," Manuel said. "He's had a little tenderness and we want to feel like we can get him to 100 percent."

With this DL stint, Gordon won't be eligible to pitch until at least June 22. The Phillies have recalled lefty R.J. Swindle -- and his 53-mph curveball -- from Class AAA Lehigh Valley.

Speaking of Lehigh Valley, Brett Myers pitches in Allentown tomorrow.

Until then...

Charlie Manuel has got to go. These two losses to the Mets were inexcusable. Replace him with some bright baseball mind such as "Stump" Merrill, Roger LaFrancois, Howie Freiling or Gary "the Kid" Carter. Any of these guys can whip the Phillies into shape and set them up for a playoff run.
