July 3 -- GET HAPP-Y

ATLANTA -- Mercifully, the suspense is over. J.A. Happ will start tomorrow night's series-opener against the Mets at the Bank.

Happ, 25, is 5-6 with a 3.54 ERA in 17 starts for triple-A Lehigh Valley. He leads the International League with 104 strikeouts in 101-2/3 innings, and just today, he was named as the Phillies' minor league pitcher of the month after going 3-1 with a 2.51 ERA, 33 strikeouts and only eight walks in 32-1/3 innings over five June starts.

The Phillies are counting on Happ to pitch better than he did last season against the Mets in his major-league debut. On June 30, he allowed five runs in four innings, struck out five and walked two. "They say he's a completely different pitcher now," Charlie Manuel said.
