July 3 -- HOWARD'S HOMERS

ATLANTA -- Ryan Howard has gone deep again tonight, giving him 22 homers. But when he hit his 21st last night, it marked his 150th career home run, tying him with Mike Lieberthal and Scott Rolen for 11th on the Phillies' all-time list.

But Howard also became the fastest player in major league history to 150 homers, doing it in only his 495th career game. That beats Eddie Mathews (569 games), Ralph Kiner (570 games), Albert Pujols (586) and Mark McGwire (588 games).

Think that will be mentioned during Howard's arbitration case next February?

Rob B.: I'd take Chipper Jones, but that's just me.

Is the first one 36-years old and injury prone with a career batting line 70 points lower or more in each of avg/obp/slg and latter guy only 28 and more than 70 points below his career line in each of those stats? Or do we only get them to replay the first of 2008 over and over again?

Why must Philadelphia fans only compare their star players to other star players in the first place? First, Burrell spends 2006-2007 criticized for not being like Howard, and now Howard spends 2008 criticized for not being like Burrell. Now, Myers is criticized for not being enough like Hamels. And this guy is pointing out that Howard is not having the same year as a first ballot Hall of Famer having a career year.

As much as I like the contact hitter, it does not do you any good if they are not crossing the plate or knocking in runs. As frustrating as it is to see Howard swing at bad pitches, I'll take his rbi numbers.
