April 15 -- RAINED OUT

As expected, it's raining A LOT today. And, as expected, the Phillies and Astros have had their scheduled 1:30 game postponed. Details will be provided later today about a makeup date for the game (most likely April 23) and the Jackie Robinson Day festivities that had been planned for before and during today's game. I'll update this post when that information becomes available.

Also, RHP Freddy Garcia, scheduled to make his long-awaited Phillies debut today after battling right biceps tendinitis for nearly three weeks, will start tomorrow night against the Mets at Citizens Bank Park. Should be fun.

Anonymous: I expect the Phillies and Astros will determine a makeup date later today. When they do, I'll be sure to update this blog and the story that has been posted on The News Journal's website.

What are your feelings about the FO's decision to designate Clay Condrey for assignment today to make room for Garcia? I thought we needed bullpen help and Condrey hasn't hurt us.

I guess the actual "rotation" goes Myers, Hammels, Garcia, Eaton and Moyer then, right? I'm just curious to see who matches up with the Mets.

Anon: The rotation is now Myers, Hamels, Garcia, Eaton, Moyer. Garcia and Eaton will face the Mets, followed by Moyer and Myers against the Nationals in DC and Hamels, Garcia and Eaton over the weekend at Cincinnati.

Regarding Condrey, I wasn't surprised last night when he was designated. He hasn't pitched poorly, but considering the situations in which he's been used, it's clear Charlie Manuel has more confidence in the other relievers. Sending a position player to the minors would've left Charlie with eight relievers and only four bench players, including a backup catcher. That wouldn't have been acceptable. So there really was nobody more expendable than Condrey. Keep in mind: the Phils don't necessarily have to trade Condrey. If they think he'll clear waivers, and he's willing to accept a Triple-A assignment, he can be sent to Ottawa and called up later in the season.

This just in: It now appears Eaton and Moyer will be flip-flopped in the rotation, according to the Phillies' PR department. That would mean Garcia and Moyer will pitch against the Mets, with Eaton and Myers going against the Nats. Stay tuned, though. These things change all the time.

And, as predicted, it has changed. The Phillies will go with Garcia on Monday night and Eaton on Tuesday against the Mets. I was right the first time.
