April 4 -- STICKING WITH MADSON

Still cold and overcast, but it's supposed to stay dry enough for the Phillies and Braves to play Game 2 of their three-game series. First pitch is still scheduled for 7:05.

In his pregame meeting with reporters, Charlie Manuel said he'll stick with Ryan Madson (left) as his primary eighth-inning reliever. Problem is, Charlie's eighth-inning reliever in Monday's 5-3 loss was starter Brett Myers. Madson, the Phillies' top choice as the setup man, wasn't used until the 10th inning. That said, Manuel's message is this: He won't lose faith in Madson after one opening-day homer by Edgar Renteria. Well, at least he won't lose any of the little faith he currently has.

Here's a thought: maybe the Phillies' setup man winds up being young right-hander Joe Bisenius, who made the team almost by default (because of the injuries to Freddy Garcia and Jon Lieber) even though he pitched well in spring training. Manuel said he'll give Bisenius a chance to pitch. Here's hoping it happens sooner than later. If Bisenius has some early success, maybe he'll stay with the team after Garcia and Lieber return from the disabled list. Speaking of which, Lieber is slated to begin a rehab assignment with Class A Clearwater on Friday. Garcia and C/INF Chris Coste will begin rehabbing with Clearwater tomorrow.

Phillies lineup is the same as opening day with one exception: Carlos Ruiz is the starting catcher for lefty Cole Hamels. RHP Tim Hudson is going for Atlanta. You may recall the last time Hudson pitched at Citizens Bank Park. He allowed three straight homers to Ryan Howard last Sept. 3.

More later.
