Aug. 2 -- CARRASCO TO TRIPLE-A

ST. LOUIS -- Almost game time here at Busch Stadium, as Joe Blanton warms in the bullpen. But I wanted to pass along that the Phillies have promoted top pitching prospect Carlos Carrasco to triple-A Lehigh Valley.

While it's true that Lehigh Valley had a spot in the rotation after Les Walrond was called to the majors late last night, Carrasco would've gotten called up to triple-A anyway. Quite simply, with one month left in the minor-league season, the Phils want to see him against older, more veteran hitters. Carrasco, 21, was 7-7 with a 4.32 ERA in 20 games at Reading.

More in tomorrow's News Journal.
