Aug. 8 -- OFFENSIVE OFFENSE

BY SCOTT LAUBER

Some ugly numbers from tonight's 2-0, 12-inning shutout:

-The Phillies have been shut out in back-to-back games for the first time since Sept. 11-12, 1999 at Arizona, a span of 18 consecutive scoreless innings.

-Jimmy Rollins' RBI single in the sixth inning Wednesday night marked the last time the Phillies scored a run. That was 23 innings ago, their longest scoreless streak since Sept. 1-3, 2000, when they had 24 consecutive scoreless innings against the Dodgers. The franchise record scoreless streak is 38 innings, set July 21-26, 1960.

More in tomorrow's News Journal.

This team is starting to really putrify in my mind, if they win it's by luck and not by skill. Why the HELL did Gillick not claim Giles? He's hitting a lot better than Ta-who?-chi, and is hitting lefties and righties equally well. This team sucks at the moment.

Sorry for the vulgarity. I will wash my mouth out with some soap.
