BY SCOTT LAUBERWhen Braves outfielder Mark Kotsay cleared waivers last week, I thought he was a player who could help the Phillies' offense.
Evidently, the Phillies agree.
According to sources who have talked to the esteemed Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports, the Phillies are interested in trading for Kotsay, although it isn't known if he'd waive his limited no-trade clause to come here. Kotsay, 33, is a free agent after the season, and he's owed approximately $1.5 million for the remainder of this year. A deal would almost have to be made before Sunday's deadline to set postseason rosters, but certainly, Kotsay could add depth to the outfield, especially with Geoff Jenkins sidelined.

I'd like this move for a fringe prospect. Also, according to Cot's the A's are paying over $5M of Kotsay's 2008 salary, so the Phillies should only owe about $750K for 1.5 months of his salary. Heck, its the 26th already, so they'd owe 1/6 of 3M is about $500K.
Kotsay can't hit lefties, but he wouldn't ever hit against them with Werth around.
Get it done for a marginal/fring guy! Don't give up the farm for a month of this guy who won't merit draft pick compensation.
