Oct. 15 -- PREGAME: ABOUT A BOY

BY SCOTT LAUBER

LOS ANGELES -- So, Geoff Jenkins was sleeping at 2 a.m. this morning when his wife, Jennifer, tapped him on the shoulder.

"It's go time," she said.

Three weeks before her due date, Jennifer was ready to have their second child. Geoff called Phillies director of travel Frank Coppenbarger. No answer. So, he ran downstairs to the lobby of the Westin Hotel in Pasadena.

"I have an unusual request," he said to the concierge.

Fortunately, Huntington Hospital was only about 5 miles away. Jenkins drove over there and, at 12:59 p.m., Jennifer gave birth to Justyce Tyler Jenkins, a 7-pound, 4-ounce baby boy. Geoff showed up at Dodger Stadium a few minutes before batting practice, and he's all smiles, both about his new son and a chance to finally play in the World Series.

"Hopefully we'll have two miracles in one day," he said.
