Oct. 20 -- IT'S THE RAYS

BY SCOTT LAUBER

This time, the Red Sox couldn't complete the comeback.

Instead, it was the Tampa Bay Rays who finished their worst-to-first story with a Game 7 victory tonight at Tropicana Field and advanced to the World Series against the Phillies. After some nervous moments on the phone with US Airways (I'll explain later), I just confirmed my reservation for a flight to Orlando, then a drive to Tampa, later this morning.

The Phillies will work out this evening at Tropicana Field, and Martin Frank and I will be there to let you know what's going on. We'll also help introduce you to Evan Longoria, Carlos Pena, Scott Kazmir (I covered him in the minors and have a few good stories to share) and the rest of the upstart Rays. So, please check back later today for updates.

Meanwhile, let's hear your predictions: Rays vs. Phils. Who wins?

Hey Slauber, it looks like it's reunion time for you and "dead arm" Kazmir.

I'm optomistic here...I'll go with Phillies in 6.

Since the rotation is the same, Hamels and moyer were already slated to each go twice...and the Rays have worse splits against left handers than the sox did.

Also, the conventional thinking is that moyer does better against these younger teams than he does against more veteran lineups. He's looked pretty rough so far in the post-season...I think Boston would have presented a big problem for him.

Rays in six games ... Their hitters are hitting. The Phillies hitters are not. If that changes then great but otherwise its going to be a quick series.

Rays in 5. Kazmir pitches the first perfect game in a World Series since Don Larsen. And somewhere Victor Zambrano is smiling.
