Mar. 16 -- MANUEL NOT HAPPY

BY SCOTT LAUBER

TAMPA, Fla. -- So, this is my fourth season covering the Phillies, and each spring, it seems the team plays one very sloppy spring-training game and Charlie Manuel goes ballistic, ranting about the need for the players to sharpen their concentration and improve their fundamentals.

Today was that day.

Kyle Kendrick pitched better, though still not great (4 IP, 8 H, 5 R, 4 ER, 3 BB, 2 K), here today. But after the Phillies allowed 20 hits, committed two errors and were routed by the Derek Jeter-less, A-Rod-less, Mark Teixeira-less Yankees, 12-0, at Steinbrenner Field, Manuel said the club "hit [bleeping] rock bottom there for a while."

The rest of Charlie's rant, well, it wasn't PG rated. And since Philled In is a family blog, we can't reprint most of it. Let's just say Manuel wasn't happy, and he made his point crystal clear.

In past years, Manuel's choice words have been followed by a team meeting. We'll see if he holds that meeting tomorrow before the Phillies host the Reds at Bright House. Also, we should have an update on Cole Hamels' visit to team physician Dr. Michael Ciccotti's office in Philly.

Talk to you then.
