Mar. 9 -- MORE INJURY UPDATES

BY SCOTT LAUBER

From colleague Chuck Gormley in Clearwater:

1. Panama was KO'd from the World Baseball Classic yesterday, so Carlos Ruiz (left) will rejoin the Phillies on Wednesday, according to Ruben Amaro Jr. Reports on Sunday indicated that Ruiz pinched a nerve in his neck, but Amaro said he is expected to be fine.

2. Chase Utley (right) still needs to do sliding drills but could play in a spring-training game by the end of the week or this weekend. Utley had arthroscopic hip surgery Nov. 24.

3. Pedro Feliz (Nov. 20 back surgery), Brad Lidge (forearm tightness), Chris Coste (hamstring) and Chad Durbin (hamstring) will play in a simulated game Wednesday.

With at least one job available in the bullpen, keep an eye on non-roster invitee Gary Majewski. He has significant big-league experience (229 appearances for Montreal, Washington and Cincinnati), and so far this spring, he has allowed only two hits and struck out six in six scoreless innings.

Chan Ho Park slid on his knees in jubilation in front of the clubhouse TV after watching his native Korea defeat Japan in the WBC this morning. Park, you'll recall, tearfully declined to pitch for Korea because he wanted to stay with the Phillies and make a bid for the No. 5 starter spot. So far, Park is looking good.
